BYU 74, North Florida 41 Jonathan Tavernari leads Cougars with 25 points

PROVO, Utah (AP) -Jonathan Tavernari had a game-high 25 points in only 24 minutes of play to lead Brigham Young to a 74-41 win over North Florida Thursday night. Tavernari scored BYU's first seven points to lead the Cougars to an early 7-4 lead and then scored another seven straight early in the second half to push the Cougars' lead to 50-24. BYU (3-0) held the Ospreys (0-2) to 12 points on 20 percent shooting in the opening half and held a commanding 23-point lead at the break. The Cougars shot an even 50 percent from the floor for the game but connected on only 4-of-10 from the free-throw line. Lee Cummard had a game-high 12 rebounds for the Cougars, which out-rebounded the Ospreys 45-27. Cameron Lovelace led North Florida with nine points. The game was the first for both teams in a four-team invitational tournament over three days.
