FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Colorado State men's basketball team registered a 74-56 victory Saturday afternoon against NAIA Division I foe Montana State Northern. The Rams, who led by as many as 29 in the game, had 10 players score in the contest.

CSU (2-2) jumped out in front of the visiting Lights taking an 11-2 lead at the 16:02 mark in the first half. The Rams would extend their lead to 33-11 with 5:56 to play before MSUN (4-3) made a 14-6 run to get to within 14 before the halftime break.

Colorado State extended its 43-25 halftime advantage to 56-27 with 13:27 to go but the Lights chipped away at the Ram lead to make the final 74-56.

"I thought we got something our of (the game) for about 30-32 minutes, but it kind of deteriorated from there" commented CSU head coach Dale Layer. "As a team I was happy with how we started, the intensity was good."

For the third-straight game, the Rams were led in scoring by junior forward Jason Smith who had 14 points and seven rebounds, narrowly missing his third-straight double-double. Smith was 7-of-10 from the floor and also had two blocked shots.

Junior Alton Robinson added 10 points for CSU as well going 4-of-5 from the floor and a perfect 2-for-2 from the free throw line. Cory Lewis led CSU with seven assists.

Colorado State shot 55.2 percent for the game going 32-of-58 while holding Montana State Northern to a 21-of-54 (.389) day. The Rams held the rebounding advantage 34-29 and forced 18 Lights turnovers.
