Cowboys Beat Rangers in Exhibition Tilt, 78-60 Wyoming will start the regular season on Friday, Nov. 13 against South Dakota State.
Nov. 7, 2009
LARAMIE, Wyo. - The University of Wyoming Cowboy men's basketball team played their only exhibition game of the preseason against Regis University on Friday in Laramie, beating the Rangers by a score of 78-60 and showing UW fans what is in store for the 2009-10 season. Although the Rangers were able to keep the score close early with timely shooting, UW would pull away in the second half using their athleticism and fast-break style of play. UW junior Djibril Thiam was a tough match-up all night and soared to 24 points on 9-9 shooting. That point total included several rim-shattering dunks by Thiam which excited the crowd and set a torrid pace for the Cowboys. Sophomore Afam Muojeke added 18 for the 'Pokes. Newcomer Amath M'Baye had a team-best six rebounds in only ten minutes of play. Wyoming led by eight points at halftime, 36-28. For the game UW shot 56.9 percent compared to 40 percent for Regis. Matt Rosinski scored a team-high 21 points for the Rangers.
The Cowboys will open the 2009-10 regular season on Friday, Nov. 13. That day, they will host South Dakota State at 7:30 p.m. in the Arena-Auditorium.
