Feb. 25, 2006

Stats

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Freshman center Trent Plaisted reached a double-double in the first half and finished with 17 points and 18 rebounds to lead BYU to an 81-72 victory over TCU Saturday night at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.

Nile Murry topped TCU with 25 points, one shy of a career-high for his three years with the Horned Frogs. Judson Stubbs recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds. The 12 boards tied a career-best.

Chudi Chinweze added 15 points for TCU, while Neiman Owens scored a career-high 13. Owens hit all three of his 3-point attempts. Neil P. Dougherty, making his first career start, had a career-best six assists.

BYU (18-7, 10-4) won for the eighth time in its last nine games.

The Frogs shot a season-high 49.1 percent from the field, including 60.7 (17-of-28) in the second half. The Cougars were at 58.3 percent (14-of-24) over the final 20 minutes to finish at 46.3.

The Cougars extended a 32-28 halftime lead to seven points before a Stubbs 3-pointer with 14:05 remaining gave TCU its only lead of the second half at 45-44.

BYU regained a 10-point advantage before a pair of Dougherty free-throws cut the TCU deficit to 73-67 with 2:53 left. The Frogs trimmed the margin to six points on two other occasions, the last being 78-72 on a driving layup by Murry with 24 seconds to play.

The Cougars outscored the Frogs 12-2 over the final 7:03 of the first half to lead 32-28 at the intermission. Plaisted had 10 points and 11 rebounds in the opening 20 minutes.

BYU led 18-13 before TCU, behind nine points from Murry, went on an 11-2 run over a 2:54 stretch to take a 26-20 advantage. Murry capped the spurt with a steal and breakaway dunk.

The Horned Frogs (5-23, 1-13) scored the game's opening four points. The Cougars' first bucket was a 3-pointer from Rashaun Broadus 2:35 into the contest.

TCU will make its final home appearance of the 2005-06 campaign Wednesday when it hosts Utah in a 9 p.m. nationally-televised contest (ESPN2).
