Frogs' Recruiting Class Ranked No. 4 By Baseball America TCU boasts second-straight Top 10 class.
Oct. 20, 2009
FORT WORTH, Texas - Baseball America tabbed the incoming recruiting class as the fourth-best in the country. This marks the second straight season that the baseball squad has brought in a Top-10 recruiting class. Last year's class earned a No. 9 ranking by the magazine. "This is great recognition for a lot of hard work done on the part of our entire coaching and support staff," said head coach Jim Schlossnagle. "Although Todd Whitting leads our recruiting efforts, helped closely by Randy Mazey, it takes a team effort on the part of everyone to both select the right student-athletes and sell them and their families on TCU." The incoming class features 12 talented athletes, including three of which were chosen in the June draft: Matt Purke (1st round, Texas), Josh Elander (37th round, Washington) and Jerome Pena (40th round, New York Mets). In total, the Frogs brought in seven freshmen and five junior college transfers. "As with all recruiting rankings, it's great to help continue momentum in the program but doesn't guarantee anything in the spring, during the season," remarked Schlossnagle. "We have a lot of work to do over the rest of the fall and into the spring before we can consider ourselves ready to begin the road to achieving our goals. At the same time, I'm very confident in the physical ability of this team and they are definitely putting the time in right now to get better daily."
