LAS VEGAS - Although the UNLV baseball season came to an end two weeks ago, nine players who will return next season are continuing playing this summer in collegiate summer leagues all across the country. Most of the teams have already started play and their seasons continue through the middle of August.

Four Rebels will be competing in the Northwoods League, which has teams in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and Ontario, Canada. Rebel catcher Michael Brenly returns for his second season with the La Crosse (Wis.) Loggers and he will be joined on the squad by Willie Bowman. Efren Navarro Jr. and Xavier Scruggs will be competing against their Rebel teammates in the Northwoods League this summer as well. Navarro Jr. will be playing with the Rochester (Minn.) Honkers and Scruggs will be playing with the Brainerd (Minn.) Blue Thunder.

Stephen Singer and Blake Amador will be playing with the Duncanville Deputies in the Texas Collegiate League, Anthony Hernandez will be playing with the San Luis Obispo Blues of the California Collegiate League and Kyle Kretchmer, who will head across the country to Falls Church, Va., to play with the Vienna Senators of the Clark Griffith League.

The Rebel who will have to travel the farthest is pitcher Michael Goodman, as he will participate in the Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League.

UNLV finished its 2007 season with a 24-36 overall record.
