SALT LAKE CITY -- A University of Utah baseball prospect and a four-year standout were each selected on the second day of Major League Baseball's first-year player draft. Incoming freshman Hilton Richardson and graduated senior Jay Brossman were each picked up by an MLB team.

Richardson was Utah's highest pick. He went to the Kansas City Royals with the No. 216 pick (seventh round). Brossman ended up with Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He was the No. 1,101 pick, going in the 36th round.

Richardson, from Kirkland, Wash., is a 6-3, 190-pound outfielder and regarded as one of the top college prospects. He signed a National letter-of-intent to play for the Utes last November.

Brossman, who just wrapped up his collegiate career last month, was a four-time all-conference selection and owns a handful of career records. He is the school's all-time hits leader and also owns career marks for RBI, doubles and total bases.
