Utah Baseball Adds Four Student-Athletes
Four junior college transfers to join Kinneberg's 2007 squad
June 7, 2006 SALT LAKE CITY - University of Utah head baseball coach Bill Kinneberg has announced the signing of four student-athletes to national letters-of-intent. Nate Burnham (Mesa, Ariz.), Fred Ferguson (Park City, Utah), Stephen Fife (Borah, Idaho) and Dustin Hennis (Phoenix) will all join the Utes this fall. Burnham transfers to Utah from Mesa Community College, where he was an all-region and all-America outfielder for the Thunderbirds. Burnham is a 5-foot 10-inch, 170-pounder, who batted .437 with 46 stolen bases for Mesa last season. Burnham will be a junior when the 2007 season begins. Ferguson, a 6-0, 190-pound catcher, transfers to the Ute program from Dixie State College in St. George, Utah. He batted .301 for the Rebels last season with a .342 slugging percentage. Ferguson helped lead Dixie State to a 39-13 record and a second-place finish in the Scenic West Athletic Conference last season. Ferguson played two seasons at Dixie and will be a junior next season with the Utes. Fife comes to Utah from Everett Community College in Everett, Wash. The 6-3, 195-pound right-handed pitcher compiled a 6-1 record for the Trojans last season. Fife also had a 3.07 earned-run average in 2006, while helping lead Everett CC to a 32-17 record. Fife will be a sophomore when he begins his Utah career, after playing just one season at Everett CC. Hennis, a 6-1, 210-pound infielder, played at Phoenix (Ariz.) College last season. He was a first-team all-region selection for the Bears. Hennis was second on the team with a .338 batting average, while also tallying a .483 slugging percentage this past season.
