NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Former San Diego State outfielder Anthony Gwynn has been named the Milwaukee Brewers' Minor League Player-of-the-Month for May. Gwynn is currently a member of the Nashville Sounds, the AAA affiliate of the Brewers.

The 23-year-old led Nashville with a .363 batting average (41-for-113) in his 29 games in the month, adding 23 runs scored, 10 stolen bases, three doubles, one triple, one homer, and eight RBI. His .363 average ranked 15th among Pacific Coast League batters.

Gwynn, the Sounds' leadoff hitter, has been swinging a hot bat of late, recording multiple-hit efforts in seven of his last eight contests and hitting safely in 20 of his last 24 games at a .396 clip (40-for-101).

The young outfielder leads the PCL and ranks third among all minor-leaguers with 74 hits. Gwynn also ranks among the PCL top five in runs (40) and steals (16). His .333 average is currently tied for 8th in the league.

Gwynn, the son of current San Diego State head baseball Tony Gwynn, is in his first season of Triple-A ball and currently ranks among the top three Sounds batters in games played (55), at-bats (220), runs, hits, doubles (13), triples (two), and stolen bases.

As an Aztec (2001-03), Gwynn was a first team all-league selection and two-time all-Mountain West Tournament honoree. He finished with a .327 career batting average and ranks among the SDSU career leaders in runs, hits, triples, stolen bases and sacrifice bunts.
