June 4, 2006

FORT WORTH, Texas - Junior first baseman Chad Huffman has been named a Third-Team All-American by Louisville Slugger, it was announced on Friday. He is one of five athletes from the Mountain West to earn all-American status from Louisville Slugger. He becomes the first Horned Frog position player to earn all-American honors since Terry Trofholz was named second-team all-American in 2002. Huffman was honored as a first-team all-conference earlier this season.

Huffman has been the hottest hitter for the Frogs this season, helping lead them to the Mountain West regular season and tournament titles for the first time in school history. He has put together hitting streaks of 22 and 14 games. He leads the team with a .387 batting average in 56 games played. He missed six starts with a pulled hamstring in March. He has driven in a career-high 71 runs to pace the squad and has connected for a career-high 18 home runs. While hitting for power, the junior has shown his patience at the plate as he has drawn team-high 38 bases on balls.

Along with putting up some gaudy numbers in 2006, Huffman has steadily climbed the career charts and ranks second in most offensive categories behind his brother, Royce. He ranks second all-time in hits (261), runs scored (179), total bases (437) and doubles (49). He is third all-time with 39 career home runs.

Joining Huffman on the all-American squad from the Mountain West is first-team honoree, designated hitter Chris Carlson of New Mexico. Left-handed pitcher Danny Ray Herrera of New Mexico was named second-team all-American, while BYU's Ben Saylor and Utah's Ryan Khoury were third-team all-Americans.
