Mountain West Conference Announces Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week

New Mexico's Brian Cavazos-Galvez and Rudy Jaramillo Named MWC Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

New Mexico senior outfielder Brian Cavazos-Galvez and freshman left-hander Rudy Jaramillo have been named the Mountain West Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.

Cavazos-Galvez, an Albuquerque, N.M., native, hit .647 (11-for-17) from the plate, with five home runs, one double, 11 RBI and 12 runs scored as New Mexico went 4-0 last week, including a three-game sweep of Air Force in conference play. In an 11-7 win at St. Mary's, Cavazos-Galvez went 2-for-4 with a two home runs, five RBI and two runs scored. In the opener of a three-game conference series vs. Air Force, he went 3-for-6 with one RBI and two runs scored in a 25-7 win. In game two, he went 1-for-2 with one RBI and two runs scored in the Lobos' 6-2 victory. Cavazos-Galvez concluded the series with a 5-for-5, four-RBI and six-run scored performance, including three home runs and a double in New Mexico's 19-6 win.

Jaramillo, from Chandler, Ariz., went 6.0 innings, striking out four batters, walking two and allowing two earned runs in the Lobos' 6-2 victory over Air Force last Friday. He scattered seven hits in his six innings on the mound, tossing three scoreless innings in the process.
