TWO MWC STUDENT-ATHLETES NAMED TO 2008 PLAYER OF THE YEAR WATCH LISTS
San Diego State's Stephen Strasburg and UNLV first baseman Xavier Scruggs have been named to the 2008 Dick Howser Trophy Watch List, as well as the 2008 Brooks Wallace Player of the Year Watch List.

The Dick Howser Trophy is given to the top player in collegiate baseball. The Dick Howser Trophy, given in memory of the former Florida State University All-America shortstop and major league player and manager who died of brain cancer in 1987, is regarded by many as college baseball's most prestigious award. Criteria for consideration for the trophy include performance on the field, leadership, moral character and courage, qualities that were exemplified by Dick Howser's life. The membership of the NCBWA will choose the Dick Howser Trophy based on three rounds of voting. The 2008 winner will be announced at the College World Series in Omaha on Saturday, June 14, at 10:00 a.m. CDT.

The Wallace Award, presented annually to the nation's top collegiate baseball player, is a dedication to the memory of former Texas Tech player and assistant coach Brooks Wallace. Wallace was diagnosed with cancer in the summer of 1984 and fought the disease until his death on March 24, 1985. The 2008 award banquet will be held on Wednesday, July 2, where the winner will be announced.
