COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV sophomore designated hitter Brandon Bayardi and TCU senior righthander Steven Maxwell have been named the Mountain West Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. This is the first career accolade for both Bayardi and Maxwell.

Bayardi batted .583 (7-for-12) with nine RBI, two runs scored, two doubles and two home runs in UNLV's weekend series against Sacred Heart. The Phoenix, Ariz., product had at least two hits and three RBI in all three of the games in which he played. On Saturday, he hit three-run homers in back-to-back games as part of a 4-for-7, six-RBI performance while helping the Rebels to a doubleheader sweep (9-2, 8-6) of the Pioneers. Bayardi also scored two runs and hit a double on the day. In Sunday's 10-9 victory over Sacred Heart, he went 3-for-5 at the plate with three RBI and one double. For the week, Bayardi posted on-base and slugging percentages of .615 and 1.250, respectively, while raising his batting average 40 points, from .297 to 337.

Maxwell worked all nine innings of Sunday's 6-2 win over New Mexico, allowing just two runs on nine hits. The Woodlands, Texas, native fanned eight hitters without surrendering a walk in his first career complete game. Maxwell never faced more than five batters in any of the nine innings, including striking out the side in the fourth.
