COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - New Mexico sophomore second baseman Troy Cairns and San Diego State senior right-handed pitcher John Skinner were named the Mountain West Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.

Cairns, from Blue Springs, Mo. (Blue Springs HS), went 9-for-16 (.563) with seven runs scored and two doubles in three games at Air Force last week. Cairns went 4-for-5 with four runs and a double in New Mexico's 12-3 series-opening win Saturday, followed by a 2-for-5 performance in the Lobos' 4-2 loss in Saturday's second game. On Sunday, Cairns went 3-for-6 with two runs and a double in the Lobos' 14-2 win over the Falcons. This is the first player-of-the-week honor in Cairns' career.

Skinner, from Dublin, Calif. (Cal State Fullerton), pitched 7 2/3 strong innings in the Aztecs' 6-3 victory against Utah on Saturday. Skinner faced 29 batters and allowed seven hits, struck out 11, walked two, and allowed three earned runs. The 7 2/3 innings of work and 11 strikeouts were both career highs for Skinner, who earned his second pitcher-of-the-week honor this season and the third of his career.
