NEW MEXICO SETS NCAA TRIPLES RECORD
New Mexico set an NCAA and MWC all-time record for triples in a single inning in its second game of a doubleheader against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi last Saturday. UNM's six triples also tied the all-time league mark for triples in a single game with Air Force, who hit six vs. Hastings College on January 26, 2001. Mike Brownstein hit two triples, while Dane Hamilton, Brian Cavazos-Galvez, Kevin Atkinson and Ryan Honeycutt hit one apiece. Brownstein became the 32nd player in MWC history to hit two triples in a single contest. The Lobos broke the previous NCAA record of four triples in a single inning set by Wichita State (vs. Missouri S&T) on May 3, 1983.
MWC TEAMS IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
TCU and San Diego State both moved up in the national rankings this week. Thanks to its two wins over then-No. 5 Cal State Fullerton, TCU moved to 16th in this week's Collegiate Baseball poll, 23rd in the Baseball America poll and 27th in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) poll. The Horned Frogs are also receiving votes in the Rivals.com Top-25 poll. San Diego State defeated then-No. 15 San Diego last Sunday and now sits at No. 26 in the Collegiate Baseball poll, while receiving votes in the NCBWA poll.
