BYU Women Finish Second at 2003 NCAA Championship CSU finishes in 16th place.
Nov. 24, 2003 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The top-ranked BYU women's cross country team finished second today at the 2003 NCAA Cross Country Championships at the University of Iowa's Irv Warren Memorial Golf Course in Cedar Falls, Iowa. 16th-ranked Colorado State finished the championship in 28th place. BYU earned its second place finish after placing all of its runners in the top-66, including three runners in the top-15. The Cougars compiled a total score of 128 points, trailing national champion Stanford by eight points. MWC Runner of the Year senior Michaela Mannova paced BYU, finishing the 6K course fourth overall (out of 252 runners) in 19:52.2. Sophomore Kassi Anderson was the next Cougar to finish the race and 13th overall in 20:14.5, followed by junior Laura Turner, who finished 14th (20:16.0). Sophomore Breanne Sandberg and freshman Suzanna Larson concluded the team scoring for BYU, finishing 31st (20:46.4) and 66th (21:11.0), respectively. Led by junior Nicole Feest, No. 16 Colorado State finished 28th. Feest finished 80th overall with a time of 21:18.4, while junior Michelle Carman (112th, 21:30.7), senior Katie Yemm (118th, 21:33.2) and juniors Crystal Clark (127th, 21:38.4)and Colleen Blair (137th, 21:46.2) rounded out the scoring for the Rams.
Individually, North Carolina's Shalane Flanagan won the women's race in 19:30.4.
