COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The No. 8 ranked BYU women's cross country team finished eighth at the 2005 NCAA Cross Country National Championships today at Indiana State University's LaVern Gibson Championship Course at The Wabash Valley Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Ind.

BYU earned its eighth-place finish after placing all of its scoring runners in the top 105, including four runners in the top 75. The Cougars compiled a total score of 288. Senior Chelsea McKell paced BYU, finishing the 6K course 18th overall (out of 253 runners) in 20:24.00 seconds. Sophomore Heidi Magill was the next Cougar to finish the race 29th overall in 20:32.80, followed by junior Breanne Sandberg, who finished 62nd (20:59.80). Freshman Amy Fowler and junior Anne Heiner concluded the team scoring for BYU, finishing 74th (21:10.10) and 105th (21:26.20), respectively.

Stanford won the team title, while Northern Arizona's Johanna Nilsson took home the individual crown in 19:33.90.
