MWC Sends Three Institutions to 2003 NCAA Championships Event to be held November 24 in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Nov. 18, 2003 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Mountain West Conference will be represented by five of its eight member institutions at the 2003 NCAA Cross Country Championships, hosted by the University of Northern Iowa on Monday, Nov. 24, at Irv Warren Memorial Golf Course in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Heading the list for the women is No. 2 BYU. On the strength of their first-place finish in last weekend's NCAA Mountain Regional in Ogden, Utah, the Cougars earned an automatic invitation to the National Championship, where they will aim for their third straight national title. No. 22 Colorado State finished third in the Mountain Regional to earn an at-large invitation. The Rams last competed in the NCAA Championships in 2001, where they finished 20th. On the men's side, No. 8 Air Force, No. 10 BYU and No. 17 Colorado State all earned at-large invitations to the NCAA Championships. The Falcons finished third at Regionals, while the Cougars and Rams finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Air Force finished 26th in its last appearance in the NCAA Championships (2001), while BYU and Colorado State finished 16th and 27th, respectively in the 2002 Championships.
The NCAA Cross Country Championships will feature 31 men's and women's teams and 38 individuals on each side. The men's 10K race will begin at 11 a.m. Central time, with the women's 6K following at 12:15 p.m.
