COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The BYU men's and women's cross country teams, along with Colorado State senior Josh Glaab and TCU senior Kip Kangogo, will represent the Mountain West Conference at the 2005 NCAA Cross Country Championships, hosted by Indiana State University, on Monday, November 21, at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course at The Wabash Valley Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Ind.

For the men, No. 6 BYU earned an at-large invitation to the NCAA Championships based on its third-place finish at the NCAA Mountain Region Championships last Saturday in Provo. MWC Runner of the Year Josh Rohatinsky paced the Cougar scoring runners with a third-place finish (30:33.10). Sophomore Chandler Goodwin was the next BYU finisher (13th overall, 31:12.10), followed by sophomore Dustin Bybee (20th, 31:27.90), senior Josh McAdams (24th, 31:35.10) and senior Nick McCombs (26th, 31:36.70). The Cougars are headed to their seventh consecutive NCAA Championship as members of the MWC, where they finished fifth in 2004. Individually, TCU's Kip Kangogo and Colorado State's Josh Glaab qualified for their second and third consecutive men's championship, respectively. Kangogo placed fourth out of 108 competitors in 30:34.60 at the NCAA South Central Region Championship in Waco, Texas, while Glaab crossed the finish line 10th (31:04.60) at the Mountain Regional.

On the strength of its second-place finish in the Mountain Region, the seventh-ranked and four-time national champion BYU women earned an automatic invite to the National Championship, where they finished eighth last season. Sophomore Heidi Magill led the Cougar charge in the regionals, crossing the finish line in 21:03.30 (fourth). Senior Chelsea Smith-McKell followed with a fifth-place finish (21:07.40), while junior Breanne Sandberg finished 12th (21:41.10). Freshman Amy Fowler and junior Anne Heiner rounded out the scoring for BYU, finishing 14th (21:47.40) and 24th (22:16.40), respectively.

The NCAA Cross Country Championships will feature 31 men's and women's teams and 38 individuals on each side. The men's race will begin at noon Eastern time followed by the women's race at 1:15 p.m.
