FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU men's and women's cross country teams each notched a top 10 finish this afternoon at the 2005 NCAA Cross Country South Central Regional in Waco, Texas. Senior sensation Kip Kangogo paced the Horned Frogs to a seventh-place finish en route to securing an individual automatic bid to the NCAA Nationals later this month.

"I'm very excited and pleased with the men's team," cross country coach Patrick Cunniff said. "We came into this meet shorthanded with only five players, but each one of them stepped up and did their job."

Kenyan natives Kangogo and Jackson Langat were among the top 25 finishers in the 10K with Kangogo covering the course in 30:34.60 to finish fourth. Langat crossed the line at 32:31.25, good for 25th.

JT Reinert and Matt Manly clocked times of 34:02.70 and 34:16.25 to place 54th and 59th, respectively, while Cody Cook completed the race in 85th with a time of 36:58.80.

The No. 4 Arkansas Razorbacks won the men's team championship title with 10th-ranked Texas in second and Texas A&M at third. Texas-Pan American finished fourth while Stephen F. Austin rounded out the top five teams.

In the women's 6K race, the TCU women gave their best efforts as they came in eighth with a team score of 240. Cassie Hostick led the team with her second 29th-place individual showing this year, posting a time of 22:46.20.

Two other Frogs finished among the top 50 with McKale Davis at 39th and freshman Ashley Young closing out her rookie campaign in 45th with a 23:28.55 clocking.

Calandra Stewart and Alyson Trovato rounded out the top five finishers for the team as Stewart finished in 24:04.05 for 61st and Trovato was good for 66th at 24:09.65.

Halie Bullin and Katrina Zielinksi also competed in the regional with Bullin turning in a time 24:13.55 while Zielinski was clocked at 24:19.65 at the line.

"I really think that the women's team could have performed better today," coach Cunniff said. "Obviously, we still need to work harder and get competitively better."

No. 19 Arkansas, No. 20 Baylor and 25th-ranked Rice finished as the top three teams, respectively. Lamar placed fourth while Stephen F. Austin landed in fifth.

The top two teams, along with the top four individuals not on one of the two automatic teams, in each of the nine regions (Great Lakes, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Mountain, Northeast, South, South Central, Southeast and West) will receive automatic bids to the NCAA Nationals, which will be held Nov. 21 in Terre Haute, Ind.
