LARAMIE, Wyo. -

University of Wyoming Athletics Director Gary Barta announced Tuesday that Cross Country Coach Jim Sanchez has been terminated from his position, effective immediately, for violating terms of his contract.

Barta thanked Sanchez for his 22 years of service, especially for his support of the families of the eight student-athletes killed in a tragic automobile accident in the fall of 2001. However, Barta noted that this action was in the best interest of the cross country program, the athletics department and the university.

Don Yentes, UW's track and field head coach, will assume the duties of head cross country coach during a national search for a permanent replacement.
