University of Utah cross country finishes seventh in the MWC Championships. Three of the girls finished with personal best times to edge out TCU for seventh.
Oct. 29, 2005 FORT COLLINS, Colo.- Chelsea DiGrazia lead the University of Utah women's cross country team again today as they finished seventh of nine at the Mountain West Conference Championships. "I'm really proud of this group," says head coach Kyle Kepler. "They came focused and ready to go, and ran to the best of their ability. We had a great team race today, and were able to nip TCU by 3 points. I'd say we probably beat them in the last 800 meters, we really got on it and had some outstanding finishes. Kellie Anderson ran a great personal best time, and is key to why we finished seventh instead of eighth." Chelsea DiGrazia finished 27th with a personal best time of 22:24. Following behind her teammate, with a personal best by about 30 seconds, was Ashlee Warnick, finishing 34th in 22:39. Nicki Hugie was next, finishing 43rd in 23:16. Kellie Anderson, coming in at 23:31, finished under 24 minutes for her first time and placed 47th. Rounding out the rest of the pack are Kristin Taylor (55th, 24:03) and Janett Ern (58th, 24:33). "DiGrazia continues to be a leader, and I'm really proud of the way Ashlee Warnick and Kellie Anderson stepped up." BYU won the meet with 23 points, followed by New Mexico with 74. Next was Colorado State with 75, Wyoming with 121, San Diego State with 134, Air Force with 138, Utah with 189, TCU with 192, and UNLV with 274.
BYU's Heidi Magill finished first with an all-time MWC Championship record time of 20:42:40 in the 6K.
