BYU to Host 2009 MWC Cross Country Championships Championship preview to air on The Mtn. tonight at 8:30 p.m. MT
Oct. 28, 2009 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The 2009 Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships will be held on Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Cascade Golf Course in Orem, Utah. The men's 8K race will begin at 10 a.m. MT, while the women's 6K race will start at 11 a.m. MT. The seventh-ranked BYU men are favored to take home their 10th crown in the 11-year history of the league. The Cougars are coming off a ninth-place finish at last year's national championship in Terre Haute, Ind. BYU sophomore Miles Batty, who will be competing in his first conference championship meet, is expected to pace the Cougars. New Mexico, who is currently ranked 19th, will also contend for the title as Lobo harriers Jacob Kirwa and Rory Fraser represent the only two 2008 top-10 finishers anticipated to compete in this year's field. The women's race will feature 21st-ranked BYU and defending conference champion New Mexico, who is currently ranked No. 20. Individually, the Cougars return senior Angela Wagner, who was named the 2008 MWC Cross Country Female Athlete of the Year, as well as sophomore Katy Andrews, who finished sixth overall at last year's championship. Lacey Oeding, who earned 2008 Freshman of the Year honors, will lead the Lobos, while Ellie Rastall, also a 2008 top-10 finisher, will pace Colorado State. The Mtn. - MountainWest Sports Network will air a 30-minute preview show dedicated to the upcoming 2009 MWC Cross Country Championships beginning tonight at 8:30 p.m. MT. Interviews with coaches and student-athletes from programs across the Conference will be incorporated into the show along with results and highlights from the season.
