Four Academy cross country runners earned all-Mountain West Conference honors after finishing in the top 14 at the MWC Cross Country Championships last Saturday.

David Romero led the men's team throughout the entire race, finishing third with a time of 24:29. Romero from Oceanside, Calif., earned first-team all-MWC. Ben Payne with at time of 24:33 finished fifth followed by Chris Acs' ninth-place finish in 24:42 and Brian Carpenter the 13th man in with a time of 24:57. Payne also earned first-team all-MWC honors. Acs and Carpenter were second-team all-conference. Air Force's top four finished higher and faster than in 2000 at the MWC. Romero and Acs' times are career-best times. Colorado State, which finished fourth and was favored to take second place, only had two runners finish in the top 14. BYU placed four runners, while New Mexico and Utah both had two each.

Air Force, which was ranked ninth in the nation going into the championships, finished second in the conference, 18th-ranked Colorado State finished fourth. Brigham Young finished first, with Utah placing third, New Mexico fifth and Wyoming sixth.
