Colorado State To Host 2005 Mountain West Conference Cross Country Championships

Event to be held at Collindale Golf Course in Fort Collins on Saturday, Oct. 29

Oct. 27, 2005

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The 2005 Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships will be held on Saturday, Oct. 29, at Collindale Golf Course in Fort Collins, Colo. The men's 8K race will begin at 10 a.m. MT, with the women's 6K at 11 a.m.

The men's race will feature defending conference champion No. 6 BYU, 2003 conference champion Air Force (No. 28) and Colorado State. The individual title will be up for grabs this year, with only three top-10 finishers from last year's race back, along with TCU senior Kip Kangogo, who won MWC individual crowns as a member of the BYU squad in 2002 and 2003. Also featured in the men's race is BYU junior Josh Rohatinsky (third-place finish in 2004), Colorado State senior Josh Glaab (sixth) and Cougar sophomore Dustin Bybee (seventh).

The eighth-ranked BYU women are favored to capture their seventh consecutive conference crown in 2005. The Cougars are coming off of an eighth-place finish in last year's national championship in Terre Haute, Ind. Individually, BYU returns 2004 all-conference selections Heidi Magill and Amber Harper, as well as 2003 all-MWC selection Breanne Sandberg. Colorado State will once again look to unseat the Cougars after finishing as the runner-up to the six-time defending champions each year. Junior Danielle Korb will lead the young Ram squad which features sophomores Linnea Pudwell, Valerie McGregor and Heather Loseke, along with freshman Kirsten Anthony. Other individuals of note in this year's race are New Mexico senior Jacquelyne Gallegos, San Diego State sophomore Lital Azulay, Aztec senior Christal Cuadra and TCU junior Calandra Stewart, whose top-10 finish in the 2004 Conference USA Championship helped the Horned Frogs to a second-place team finish.

Complete results can be accessed following the conclusion of the championships on the conference website (www.TheMWC.com).
