COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Wyoming sophomore Mark Korir and San Diego State senior Celeste Tyson have been selected as the Mountain West Conference men's and women's cross country athletes of the week.

Korir, from Eldoret, Kenya, placed fifth out of 288 runners at the Chili Pepper Invite in Fayetteville, Ark., last weekend. In his first 10K race as a collegian, he crossed the finish line in a time of 28:40.

Tyson finished eighth out of 136 runners at last weekend's Santa Clara Invitational in Sunnyvale, Calif., clocking in with a time of 17:52.00 in the 5K event. Her time is not only a career-best for the distance, but is the fastest time ran by an Aztec and the second fastest 5K time in the MWC this season. Tyson led the Aztecs to a seventh-place finish, while running 38 seconds faster than her time in the same meet in 2005.
