MWC Announces Cross Country Athletes of the Week Air Force's Sebastian Ortiz, San Diego State's Kristin Glen honored
Oct. 14, 2008 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Air Force senior Sebastian Ortiz and San Diego State senior Kristin Glen have been selected as the Mountain West Conference men's and women's cross country athletes of the week, respectively. Ortiz was the top-scoring Falcon at the Fort Hays State Tiger Open held in Hays, Kans., last Saturday. The Columbia, Pa., native clocked a career-best time of 25:08, marking Air Force's second-fastest 8K time this season. Ortiz shaved more than two minutes off his previous season-best time and is now ranked in the top-20 in the league to date. The harrier finished fourth in a race that featured a field of 77 and led the Falcons to a third-place finish overall. For the second-consecutive meet, Glen posted San Diego State's fastest time by completing the 6K course in a team season-best 22:57 at the Triton Classic held in San Diego, Calif., last Saturday. Glen finished in 14th-place and helped the Aztecs come in third-place overall, finishing ahead of the 14th-ranked team in the West Region, UC Irvine. Her performance at the meet was more than 22 seconds faster than her previous season-best effort, and her placing was her second-best as an Aztec. Hailing from Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., Glen was one of three Aztecs to finish in the top-25.
