COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Utah seniors Travis Hildebrand and Johanna Nielson have been selected as the Mountain West Conference men’s and women’s cross country athletes of the week, respectively.

Competing at the Arizona State Invitational, Oct. 8, Hildebrand, an Etna, Calif., native, ran to a team-best third-place finish with a time of 25:13 as the Utes placed second at the 16-team event. Hildebrand was one of three Utah runners that placed in the top ten as the Utes, ranked 19th heading into the competition, outscored 17th-ranked Arizona State.

Nielson, a Springville, Utah, native, captured her second win of the season and second Conference Athlete of the Week honor as she finished first at the Arizona State Invitational, Oct. 8. Nielson’s time of 18:18 was 15 seconds faster than her closest competitor and 1:37 faster than her closest teammate as Utah finished sixth in the 13-team event.

Utah will compete this weekend at the Pre-NCAA Invitational in Bloomington, Ind., on Oct. 16.
