Mountain West Conference Cross Country Athletes Of The Week New Mexico's Gonzales and San Diego State's Stewart garner weekly honors.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - New Mexico sophomore Matt Gonzales and San Diego State junior Alicia Stewart have been selected as the Mountain West Conference men's and women's cross country athletes of the week, respectively. Gonzales cruised to his first career individual victory as a Lobo in 25:32.3 at the Arizona State University Invitational, leading New Mexico to its most impressive team victory of the season. The Lobos defeated 15th-ranked Arizona State and UCLA on the way to their second team victory in three meets. So far this season, the All-American transfer from Division II New Mexico Highlands University, has finished in the top 10 in each race. Stewart ran her best 5K race of the season at the Long Beach Invitational on Oct. 6, finishing eighth out of 46 runners in a season best 18:52.5. The Costa Mesa, Calif. native paced the Aztecs to their best finish of the season as they placed two other runners in the top 25. This is Stewart's first career athlete of the week award. Next up for the Lobos is the Pre-NCAA Meet Greenville, S.C., while the Aztecs will run in the UCSD Invitational. Both events are scheduled for Oct. 13.
This week in the MWC: The Air Force Academy, BYU and Colorado State joins New Mexico in Greenville for the Pre-NCAA Meet. UNLV joins San Diego State at the UCSD Invitational, while Utah and Wyoming are idle.
