COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Air Force C2C (junior) Joe Monaco and BYU sophomore Laura Heiner have been selected as the Mountain West Conference men’s and women’s cross country athletes of the week, respectively.

Competing at the Stanford Invitational, Oct. 2, Monaco, a West Point, N.Y., native, ran to a team-best 31st place finish in the field of 139. Monaco’s time of 25:40 was more than a minute faster than his previous season-high and eclipsed his personal best of 25:51 which he set at last year’s conference championships.

Heiner, a Clifton, Va., native, recorded the fastest time by a Mountain West Conference runner this year at the Stanford Invitational, Oct. 2. Her time of 16:56 was good for a ninth-place finish at the event which featured 169 runners. Heiner’s time established a new personal best and was 31 seconds faster than the previous league high.

Air Force and BYU will both compete at the Pre-NCAA Invitational in Bloomington, Ind., on Oct. 16.
