COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Brigham Young University sophomore Kip Kangogo and sophomore Kassi Andersen have been selected as the Mountain West Conference men's and women's cross country athletes of the week, respectively.

Kangogo recorded his first collegiate victory at the eight-kilometer distance on Sept. 28 at the Griak Invitational in St. Paul, Minn., finishing the course in a career-best 23:38.9. The Kabarnet, Kenya native beat Eastern Michigan's Boaz Cheboiywo, last year's NCAA Cross Country champion, by nine seconds. BYU finished fourth at the invite.

Andersen who hails from Provo, Utah, finished second out of 174 runners at the Great American Cross Country Festival in Charlotte, N.C. on Sept. 27. She ran the five-kilometer course in 17:57.1, leading the Cougars to a first place finish.
