COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU junior Kip Kangogo and San Diego State senior Marie Nilsson have been selected as the Mountain West Conference men's and women's cross country athletes of the week, respectively. This is the second weekly award for both recipients this season.

Kangogo, a Kabarnet, Kenya, native, finished first overall (out of 255 runners) at the Roy Griak Invitational last weekend in Minneapolis, Minn. He finished the 8k race in 23:58, helping the Cougars to a second-place finish in the men's gold division.

Nilsson, a Kil, Sweden, native, was the top finisher for the Aztecs (13th overall) at the Stanford Invitational, crossing the finish line in 21:53 in the 6k race. Her time is the second fastest in a 6k race in school history and marks only the second time ever that an Aztec runner clocked in a sub-22 minute time in a 6k. Nilsson finished ahead of the entire No. 15 Arkansas team at the Invite which featured No. 2 Stanford, No. 23 Wisconsin and 24th-ranked UCLA.

The Cougar men will not be competing until Oct. 17 when they travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa for the Pre-National Meet. The SDSU women will compete in the Mountain West Conference Pre-Championship Meet on Saturday, Oct. 4 in San Diego.
