BYU Men Move up the Polls to No. 5

Sept. 30, 2003

PROVO, Utah - After placing second in the Roy Griak Invitational Saturday, the BYU men's cross country team moved up the pools seven points to become ranked No. 5 in the Nation.

This weekend the Cougars competed against a stack of top ranked teams. With Kip Kangogo's first place win and several other strong runs by Cougar men, the team was able to beat No. 5 Oregon, No. 10 Eastern Michigan, No. 15 Providence, No. 23 Colorado State, No. 25 Minnesota and No. 26 Iowa.

"Our strong finish this weekend really helped us to move up in the polls," men's head coach Ed Eyestone said. "It is an honor to be recognized by my coaching peers who voted our program as a top five program."

This is the highest ranking the men have seen under Coach Eyestone's direction.

"As good as No. 5 is," Eyestone said, "we have a little space to improve."

The men look to improve their ranking as they match up with other top-5 schools at Pre-Nationals Oct. 17 in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
