Sept. 29, 2003 CARRY, N.C. - The women's cross country team ran away with a first place win Friday in the 2003 Great American Cross Country Festival in Carry, N.C. Leading the Cougar pack for a second time this season Michaela Mannova won the overall race in a season best of 17:38.4. The Cougars dominated the University B race taking first, second, third, fifth, eighth, thirteenth and fifteenth place giving the team almost a perfect score. "We had a hard race on the course," women's head coach Patrick Shane said. "All seven ran really well." Shane was particularly impressed with junior Lisa Antonelli who placed fifth overall with a time of 18:22. Also running for the Cougars was sophomore Breanne Sanberg who took second in 17:54.2, redshirt freshman Suzanna Larson who ran the 5K course in 18:10 placing third overall and Rena Williams who placed eighth in 18:32. Junior Anika Busby in her season opener placed thirteen in 18:59 and freshman Amber Harper followed in fifteenth place with a time of 19:06. "I saw improvement and that is really what we came here for," Shane said. "I was happy with Amber Harpers vast improvement over last weeks race in Hawaii. She performed much better today. Really all the girls did well. We are just working on getting better and better before November and NCAA Nationals."
