Colorado State's Berryhill and San Diego State's Edwards Earn Mountain West Conference Cross Country Honors

Edwards led SDSU to a first-place finish at the Hawaii Invitational.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado State University senior Bryan Berryhill and San Diego State University junior Kylie Edwards have been selected as the Mountain West Conference men's and women's cross country athletes of the week, respectively.

Competing at the Roy Griak Invitational, Sept. 23, in Minneapolis, Minn., Berryhill completed the 8K race with at time of 24:33, a personal best. The senior from Central Point, Ore., finished the race with a third- place finish out of 252 runners from 31 teams. Five of those teams are currently ranked in the top 15 of national polls. He was the only Ram to finish in the top 30and led his squad to a fifth-place overall finish. Colorado State entered the national rankings at No. 11 this week.

Setting her third consecutive personal best this week, Edwards finished the 5K race at the Hawaii Invitational Sept. 23 with a time of 18:20. Hailing from Mt. Dundeed, Australia, Edwards was the first Aztec to cross the finish line as she led her team to a first-place overall finish out of 13 teams. The junior finished the race in third place out of 88 total runners.

Coming up: Colorado State gets two weekends off before traveling to the Pre-NCAA Invitational in Ames, Iowa, Oct. 14, while San Diego State faces No. 1 Stanford at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., Sept. 30.

Other MWC teams in action this week: Air Force travels to both the Indiana State Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind., and the Rocky Mountain Shootout in Boulder, Colo. BYU women join San Diego State in the Stanford Invitational and Wyoming competes in the Rocky Mountain Shootout. All races are Saturday, Sept. 30.
