BYU Women Race at Great American Cross Country Festival and Men Race at Griak Invitational Both the men's and women's races will count toward at large bids to the NCAA Championships.
Sept. 24, 2003 PROVO, Utah - BYU men's and women's cross country teams are both on the road this weekend. The women's team will travel to Carry, N.C., to compete in the Great American Cross Country Festival, and the men's team will compete in the Roy Griak Invitational in St. Paul, Minn. The women's team is coming off a strong finish at the University of Hawaii's Big Wave Invitational and will run the 5K course Friday at 4:15 p.m. Eastern time in the Nike Race of Champions. Running this weekend will be freshman Amber Harper, redshirt freshman Suzanna Larson, sophomore Breanne Sandberg, junior's Anika Busby, Lisa Antonelli, Rena Williams and senior Michaela Mannova. The team will face their toughest competition of the season as it races against 19 other teams, notiably No. 16 Duke University, No. 10 Northern Arizona University, No. 9 University of North Carolina, No. 28 University of Virginia and No. 24 College of William and Mary. The men's team will race Saturday at noon local time in the 8K Gold Race. The Division I men's race will include about 300 runners and is one of the largest meets the team will run in this year. The race is stackd with top NCAA Division I teams like No. 2 Wisconsin, No. 5 Oregon, No. 10 Eastern Michigan, No. 15 Providence, No. 19 Portland, No. 23 Colorado State, No. 25 Minnesota and No. 26 Iowa. Athletes running for the men will be freshman Rich Nelson, sophomores Nick McCombs and Josh McAdams and juniors Chad Durham, David Woodbury, Matt Adams, Nathan Robinson, Lars Kjerengtroen, Bryan Lindsay and Kip Kangogo. The men will travel to Minnesota after resting this past week and a strong win the week before at the BYU Autumn Classic where Kangogo placed first in his season opener.
Both the men's and women's races will count toward at large bids to the NCAA Championships.
