COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - University of Utah freshman Kurt Michaels and San Diego State University senior Jennifer Stakiw have been selected as the Mountain West Conference men's and women's cross country athletes of the week, respectively.

Michaels, a Kalispell, Mont. native, finished sixth out of 51 runners at the Montana State University Invitational on Sept. 21. He ran the five-mile course in time of 25:17.52, to pace the Ute runners to a second place finish.

Stakiw who hails from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, finished 11th out of 111 runners at the Hawai'i Invitational on Sept. 21. She ran the 5K course in 19:37.9, to pace the Aztec runners to a fourth place finish. This is the third straight race Stakiw has led the Aztecs to the finish line.
