Sept. 23, 2008

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Wyoming senior Mark Korir and BYU junior Angela Wagner have been selected as the Mountain West Conference men's and women's cross country athletes of the week, respectively.

Korir won his second-consecutive Montana State Invitational crown last Saturday in Bozeman, Mont. The Eldoret, Kenya, native defended his 2007 title by finishing the men's five-mile race in a time of 24:28, eight seconds faster than the second-place finisher. The two-time cross country All-American currently holds the fastest recorded time for the Montana State Invitational. This is his second title of the 2008 season and his second weekly honor this month.

Wagner, from Centurion, Pretoria, South Africa, led the Cougars to a first-place finish at the Bob Firman Invitational held in Eagle, Idaho last Saturday. She finished the women's 5K course with a time of 18:19, nearly ten seconds ahead of teammate Katie Andrews who secured second-place. Wagner's time set a new course record and currently ranks third on the MWC Best Times List this season.
