New Mexico Moves Up To 29th In National Country Poll Lobos ranked No. 6 in Mountain Region Poll.
Sept. 17, 2002 ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of New Mexico men's cross country team joined the national top-30 rankings for the first time in 13 years, earning 44 votes to move into a tie for 29th place with the University of Michigan in this morning's Mondo Men's Cross Country Rankings. New Mexico, which received 11 votes in the Aug. 27 preseason poll, is unbeaten this season after cruising to its second-straight victory on Sept. 14 at home in the UNM Lobo Invitational. UNM's last appearance in the national top-30 was in 1989, when it was ranked as high as 14th in the country. New Mexico is also ranked No. 6 in the Mountain Region Poll, behind Mountain West Conference rivals Colorado State (5th) and Brigham Young (3rd). The Lobos have the week off, but will get their biggest test of the young season on Sept. 28 when the men's and women¹s teams travel to Palo Alto, Calif. for the elite Stanford Cross Country Invitational.
