MWC Cross Country Athletes of the Week New Mexico's Jeremy Johnson and BYU's Kassi Anderson honored.
Sept. 12, 2006 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - New Mexico junior Jeremy Johnson and BYU junior Kassi Anderson have been selected as the Mountain West Conference men's and women's cross country athletes of the week. Johnson, an Albuquerque, N.M., native, turned in a career-best third place finish at the Lobo Invitational, helping the UNM men finish third in the 13-team field. He crossed the finish line in 24:59, just 12 seconds behind the winner, UTEP All-American Stephen Samoei, for the highest finish by a Lobo men's runner since the 2004 season. Anderson, from Provo, Utah, won the women's 5K race at the BYU Autumn Classic last weekend in Orem, Utah. Competing in her first race since 2003 due to injury and a LDS mission, Anderson finished the race in 17:54.30 for the victory.
