BYU Men, Colorado State Women Favored to Win 2008 Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships

The BYU men's and Colorado State women's cross country teams were selected to win the 2008 Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Championships, respectively, in a vote by the league's coaches released Monday (August 18).
BYU collected five first-place votes and 25 total points to capture the top spot in the men's poll, while New Mexico totaled 20 points to claim second place. Air Force collected 15 total points to earn the third-place nod, followed closely by Colorado State (14 points), who notched the remaining first-place vote. Wyoming (9 points) and TCU (7 points) finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
The Colorado State women's team received six first-place votes and gathered a score of 62 to capture the top position in the women's poll. BYU collected the remaining three first-place votes and was selected to finish second with 59 points. New Mexico claimed the third spot with 49 points, followed by Utah (40 points) in fourth, and Wyoming (35 points) in fifth. Air Force finished sixth (28 points), while TCU (22 points), San Diego State (15 points) and UNLV (14 points) rounded out the final three positions at seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively.
The BYU men collected their eighth conference crown in nine years in 2007 and went on to garner a 22nd place finish at the 2007 NCAA Cross Country Championship in Terre Haute, Ind. The Colorado State women won their first MWC title in 2007 and finished 15th at the NCAA Championship.
