COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Eight student-athletes on the University of Utah cross country/track & field teams have earned Mountain West Conference Scholar-Athlete awards. Additionally, 20 members of the track & field team earned Academic All-MWC honors for the spring semester.

Alexis Davis, Chelsea DiGrazia, Lauren Endersen, Janett Ern and Samantha Gaffney earned the MWC Scholar-Athlete Award, the highest academic honor given by the conference, in both cross country and track & field.

Alyssa Abbott picked up the award in cross country and Candus Aiello and Aimee Nay both won the award in track & field.

To be considered for the award, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in an NCAA-sponsored sport.

Garnering academic all-conference honors in track & field this year were: Candus Aiello, Kellie Anderson, Josefin Berg, Brooke Casagranda, Davis, DiGrazia, Endersen, Ern, Breanna Freestone, Kastin Frostl, Gaffney, Sarah Grimm, Langley Iverson, Haley McAlister-Birkeland, Nay, Sydney Osmun, Carly Selleck, Chelsea Shapard, Laryssa Simpson and Mandi Witherspoon.

 

 

To be eligible for selection to the Academic All-MWC Track & Field Team, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team.

In all, Utah had 88 student-athletes recognized on the Spring Academic All-MWC team. The spring team included baseball, softball, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's tennis, women's tennis, men's golf, men's swimming and diving, women's swimming and diving and women's track and field.
