COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Six members of the Air Force cross country team were earned Mountain West Conference Scholar-Athlete distinction, the conference office announced this afternoon (June 24). Freshman Meghan Prinkey was the lone representative from the women's team, while five members of the men's team were selected.

After two semesters of class as an astronautical engineering major, Prinkey holds an impressive 3.63 grade-point-average.

On the men's side, three recently graduated Falcons earned scholar-athlete distinction. Justin Mason graduated with a 3.71 GPA in aeronautical engineering, while classmates Daniel Castle (3.68 GPA) and Matt Williams (3.63 GPA) concluded their four years of study with degrees in English and behavioral science, respectively. Junior Zach Nordahl (3.59, civil engineering) and sophomore Tyler Small (3.69, physics) rounded out the Air Force selections.

The MWC Scholar-Athlete Award is the highest academic honor bestowed by the conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in an NCAA-sponsored sport.
