U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. - The Mountain West Conference announced its 2001 Academic All-Conference team for men and women's cross country. Eight Falcons earned academic honors: C2C Elissa Ballas (Biology), C3C Anne Chumlea (Operation Research), C4C Cindy Dawson (undeclared), C3C Jean Taylor (Astro Engineering), C4C Mary Uhler (undeclared), C2C Jim Blech (Humanities), C1C Brian Carpenter (Computer Science) and C4C Thomas Kubler (undeclared). This is Carpenter's second selection to the Academic All-conference team his first was in 1999.

The Falcons concluded the regular season second in the men's conference race, while the women finished third. Four runners earned all-conference first and second team, they were C1C David Romero, C3C Ben Payne, C1C Brian Carpenter and C3C Chris Acs. Romero and Payne earned all-region honors. C3C Brandess Pardue earned all-region after finishing 23rd in the Mountain Region championship race.

The men's team finished 26th in the NCAA Championships, while Pardue, the only Academy women to compete in the national meet, finished 223rd.
