2001 Season Ends For Wyoming Cross Country Both Cowboys and Cowgirls run final race of the year at the Mountain Region Championships.

LARAMIE, Wyo. - The 2001 cross country season officially came to an end for the University of Wyoming Friday, Nov. 10, at the Mountain Region Championships in Provo, Utah. The Cowboys placed 16th out of 17 teams and the Cowgirls placed 17th out of 18 teams. The University of Colorado won the men's title with 48 points and Brigham Young University won the women's title with 31 points. Cowgirl freshman Ashley Mecham was the top finisher for Wyoming placing 46th overall (out of 118) on the 6-kilometer course with a time of 23:17.9. Cowboy senior Chris Jons paced the UW men with an 85th place finish on the 10-kilometer course with a time of 34:18.7. There were 112 competitors in the men's race.
The following are quotes from UW cross country coach Jim Sanchez after the Mountain Region Championships: "I was very pleased with the performance of a couple of our freshman girls, Ashley Mecham and Jennifer Thompson. Both really had a great race today and overall had a very solid season. They will both only get better. For the men, it's been a tough year, it's over and we're spent.
