Provo, Utah - The University of Utah cross country teams competed in the 2001 Mountain Region Cross Country Championships on Nov. 10. The men's team finished sixth and the women's team finished eighth. The sixth place finish marks Utah's highest finish at the Mountain Region Championships. There are eight teams from the region ranked in the top 35 teams in the country. Utah may earn a chance to compete in the final championship race, depending on the results from the other eight regions.

Teren Jameson led the men's team by placing third (30:53). A close 0.9 seconds separated the top three finishers. Colby Fraizer placed 14th (31:36) followed by BJ Christensen at 32nd (32:11) and Nephi Tyler finishing 43rd (32:35). For the women's team, Tara Hall was the first to cross the finish line at 31st (22:56) followed by Elise Greenwood placing 32nd (22:57) and Julie Osguthorpe at 67th (23:47).
