ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The UNLV women's cross country team finished in eighth place at the Mountain West Conference championship meet, held this morning at the University of New Mexico North Golf Course in Albuquerque, N.M. The meet had been originally scheduled to be run in San Diego, but was moved due to the fires in southern California.

Junior Michele Suszek was the Rebels' top finisher, as she ran 23:47 to finish in 31st place. Also scoring for UNLV was Sarah Loughlin, 48th at 25:16, Heather Walsh, 50th at 25:38, Ashley Pierce, 52nd at 25:50, and Erin Hammond, 53rd at 25:54. Other Rebel runners included Samantha Serrano, 55th at 27:48, and Monica Matute, 56th at 28:39.

UNLV finished with 234 points to finish eighth as a team. Second-ranked BYU won their fifth straight women's title by taking five of the top eight places to finish with 19 points. Colorado State was second with 62 points, while Air Force was third at 106. Rounding out the field, Utah was fourth at 124, New Mexico fifth at 141, San Diego State sixth at 143, and Wyoming seventh at 159.

The Rebels will next compete in the NCAA West Regionals, held in Portland, Ore., on Saturday, Nov. 15.
