Rebels Place Eighth at MWC Cross Country Championships Zarndt claims top 15 finish at conference meet.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The UNLV women's cross country team placed eighth with 214 points at the 2001 Mountain West Conference Cross Country Championships held Saturday morning at the Paradise Hills Golf Course in Albuquerque, N.M.
Junior Jessica Zarndt (Las Vegas, Nev.) turned in a season best time and covered the 6-kilometer course in a time of 22 minutes, 9 seconds, to finish 15th among the pack. This marked Zarndt's first conference championship meet, after transferring last season from Nevada, Reno.
Freshman Kelley Wright (Houston, Texas) came across the finish line next, recording a time of 25:17.00 for 53rd, while fellow freshman Jennifer Turk (Newbury Park, Calif.) placed 58th with a time of 26:58.00, freshman Tiffany McCray (Missouri City, Texas) 60th at 27:10.00 and junior Nickeisha Charles (Arima, Trinidad) 61st at 28:07.00.
BYU, ranked second in the nation, captured its third straight MWC Championship title, after the Cougars' top three runners finished 1-2-3 in the women's race. BYU's Tara Northcutt took top individual honors with a time of 21 minutes, edging out teammate Michaela Manova by a mere three seconds for the victory.
The Rebels have one more meet ahead, as three harriers (Zarndt, Turk and Wright) travel to the NCAA West Regional Championships on Saturday, Nov. 10, hosted by the University of Arizona in Tucson, Ariz. The regional race is set for an 11 a.m. (PST) start.
