Sept. 16, 2006

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The BYU men's cross country team had a successful outing at the Sacramento State Invitational on Saturday. Other schools participating in the men's race included Fresno State, UC Davis, San Francisco and Notre Dame de Namur.

Chandler Goodwin led his team to a perfect score of 15 points with a time of 24:38 in the 8k. BYU placed 12 runners in the top 15, as well as claiming the top six spots.

Coach Ed Eyestone was very proud of the effort put forth by his runners in the absence of senior Josh Rohatinsky, who did not participate in the meet.

"Chandler had a great win. That was really nice," said Eyestone. "We saw Dan Hinckley's consistency. Last week was not a fluke. He will challenge for an All-American this year."

Coming into the race, Eyestone expected his team to excel. He divided the team up into two smaller groups led by Goodwin and Hinckley. The two teams were told that they would be competing against one another.

"Chandler's team did very well," said Eyestone.

Up next the Cougars will rejoin the women for a trip to the University of Oregon on Sept. 29.

"Very good things are happening," said Eyestone. "I'm seeing the team mature a little bit."
