Rams Travel to the Twin Cities Colorado State to participate in the Roy Griak Invitational.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Colorado State men's and women's cross country return to competition on Sept. 27 at the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational, hosted annually by the University of Minnesota, after taking not competing last weekend. An anticipated 2,900 athletes will compete in seven different races on Saturday. A total of 58 NCAA Division I teams are set to compete in the Gold Races. Nineteen schools (Arizona, Arizona State, Baylor, Boston College, Colorado State, Iowa State, Marquette, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Northern Iowa, Providence, Southern Utah, Texas Tech, Utah State, Wake Forest, Washington State and Weber State) will be competing in both the men's and women's Gold Race events. An additional 12 schools are only competing in the men's race and eight teams are competing in the women's race. New Mexico Recap: The Colorado State men's and women's cross country teams swept the University of New Mexico Lobo Invitational, the second straight event won by both teams. The men finished with a team score of 35 led by three runners who finished in the top 10. Josh Glaab and Austin Vigil finished third and fourth, respectively. Both Glaab and Vigil crossed the finish line with a time of 24:58. Bill Michel took sixth place for the Rams, recording a time of 25:02. Paul DiGrappa recorded a mark of 25:12 to finish 10th, followed closely by Mike Nicks. Nicks finished with a time of 25:24 to take the 12th spot. Matt Cianciulli finished in 19th just ahead of Paul Michel who rounded out the rest of the field for Colorado State, finishing with times of 25:41 and 25:47 respectively. The women recorded a team score of 36, finishing more than one minute ahead of second place Texas Tech. Four Ram women finished in the top ten led by a third place finish by Crystal Clark, crossing the finish line with a time of 22:40. Colleen Blair, Katie Yemm and Nicole Feest finished 6th, 7th and 8th respectively for Colorado State. Blair finished with a time of 22:48, only one second ahead of Yemm. Feest finished close behind with a time of 22:52. Rounding out the field for the Rams was Michelle Carman who finished 12th with a time of 23:01, only one second ahead of 13th place finisher Bekah Yetzer. Sarah MacKay finished in 18th with a time of 23:17. Wyoming Recap: The Colorado State men's and women's cross country teams opened their season Friday at the University of Wyoming Open Cross Country Meet at Jacoby Golf Course. Both teams dominated the competition and came away with team titles. The men finished with a total score of 31 and the women finished with a score of 30. All runners for the men's team finished in the top 20, including four in the top 10: Ryan Kirkpatrick (fourth, 21:34), Matt Pettit (fifth, 21.34), Dave Zakavec (eighth, 21:58), and Nelson Palacios (tenth, 22:19). Dennis Flanagan and John Nichols finished 12th and 17th, respectively. All four runners for the women's team finished in the top six. The team was led by Michelle Carman, who finished in second with a time of 14.22. Nipping at Carman's heels was Sarah MacKay who finished just two seconds behind her with a time of 14.24. Bekah Yetzer and Valerie McGregor finished fifth and sixth, respectively. Picked Second: The Colorado State men's and women's cross country teams were picked to finish second in the Mountain West Conference Championship on November 1 in San Diego. BYU was chosen by the league's coaches to win both titles.
National Rankings: The men's cross country team is ranked 23rd in the
nation this week, while the women climbed one spot into the top 25. The
Rams are one of 15 teams to have both their mens and womens programs
ranked in the top 25 in the country this week.
